krummholzAI

APPLIED AI. OPEN FOUNDATIONS.

Intelligence,
grounded.

Better data for the world we work in.
Curated, MIT-licensed datasets for the industries that keep it moving.

BELFAST, MAINE / LOOKING WESTSTARTUP · PLANNED LAUNCH JAN 02, 2027

01 / OUR FOUNDATION

Real industries.
Useful intelligence.

AI becomes useful when it understands the work. We’re building the data foundations for that understanding, from forests and fisheries to customer conversations and job-specific robotics.

Our flagship is carefully curated, openly licensed training data. Outdoor apps and custom business software bring the same practical approach into people’s hands.

THE FLAGSHIP / CURATED DATASETS

Train for the task.

Four areas of focus. One commitment: practical data that others can build on.

PLANNED DATA FOCUSK / 01

From the forest floor
to better decisions.

Training data for recognizing forest conditions, organizing field observations, and supporting the people who manage working forests.

Species recognitionField assessmentOperational planning

Illustrative training applications. Dataset specifications and availability will be announced at launch.

01 / CURATE

Make the data useful.

Our approach starts with task relevance, careful organization, and clear documentation.

02 / OPEN

Build without lock-in.

Our planned datasets will use the MIT License, enabling reuse, adaptation, and commercial development under its terms.

03 / APPLY

Connect training to work.

Help established industries adopt AI and open new possibilities for practical, job-specific robotic skills.

02 / BEYOND THE DATA

Built to leave
the lab.

Two complementary lines of work. The same focus on software that earns its place in everyday life.

ML-DRIVEN APPS

For the way out.

High-quality apps for hikers, climbers, and travelers. We bring machine learning and hands-on outdoor experience to tools designed around real journeys.

CUSTOM SAAS

For the work ahead.

CRMs, websites, and custom software built around how a business actually operates. Our priority is local businesses in forestry, fishing, customer service, and applied robotics.

03 / A NAME WITH ROOTS

Shaped by
the real world.

Krummholz is the wind-shaped growth of trees at the edge of their environment.

Our name connects the forests we study, the mountains we explore, and the way we build: adapting to real conditions. Useful intelligence needs that same grounding: data shaped by actual tasks, and software shaped by the people using it.

04 / MAINE ROOTS. A WESTERN HORIZON.

Rooted here.
Room to grow.

CURRENT BASE

Belfast, Maine

We’re starting in a place where working forests, coastal industries, and independent businesses make the case for practical AI tangible.

Our commitment is to help those industries gain useful new capabilities and create opportunities to build what comes next.

POTENTIAL EXPANSION / LATE 2027

Cheyenne, Wyoming

We are exploring an expansion of our data operations to Cheyenne beginning in late 2027, alongside our pending Wyoming LLC incorporation.

Cheyenne is central to our plans for a western base. Any expansion remains subject to funding, partnerships, and operating conditions.

Our perspective on building in Maine +

“We see Belfast as ambivalent at best about technology. We want to demonstrate what AI can do for the industries and people already here.

We also need room to build. If local anti-AI policy and sentiment make growth unworkable, we may, regrettably, leave Maine and pursue that future in Cheyenne. That is a possibility, not a decision already made. Our preference is to build where useful technology is welcome.”
